Health Care Online is a contract research organisation (CRO) that leverages the advantages of cloud computing and provides clinical data management services, web based clinical trial management systems and tablet computers for clinical trials, postmarketing studies, Safety Assessment of Marketed Medicines (SAMM) studies, registries, medical records and electronic data capture.

Health Care Online, Inc. was founded in 1997 by professionals from America Online and the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, who had the vision that leveraging the powers of the Internet, tablet computers and touch screen computers could drastically improve efficiency in gathering medical data.

Lakin Ducker
CEO

Lakin Ducker Lakin Ducker has been leading the efforts to generate sales and new business for Health Care Online, Inc. and provide cost-effective high-tech clinical solutions to clients. He has worked in Health Care Online since 1997. Prior to that he was a Project Manager at America Online, Inc. where he was primarily involved in managing development and design projects for the Health Channel and the International Channel. He has worked in Internet-related services and software development since 1994. He has worked in clinical research since 1997, witnessing first hand the global information revolution and how it has improved clinical research methods. Lakin has seen the pharmaceutical and medical device markets and development process become truly global. Lakin has a Masters in Marketing from the Université Libre de Bruxelles in Brussels, Belgium (1995). He has a B.A. from Denison University (1990). Lakin has lived and worked in Belgium, the Netherlands and Italy. He speaks English, Italian, French, Spanish, Chinese and Dutch.

Thomas Ducker
Chief Medical Officer

Claudia Cai Ducker Thomas serves as the Chief Medical Officer for Health Care Online, Inc. He is our company's guru on all things medical.

Doctor Ducker has been the President of the Cervical Spine Research Society; the President of the Maryland Neurosurgical Society; President of the Anne Arundel Medical Staff; Member of the Board of Trustees of the Musculoskeletal Transplant Foundation; Member of the Board of Trustees of the Anne Arundel Health System; Member of the Board of Directors of the Anne Arundel Medical Center Foundation. He has been the Assistant Dean of College of Medicine, Medical University of South Carolina; Head of Neurosurgery at the University of Maryland Hospital and School of Medicine; and a Professor of Neurologic Surgery at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and the University of Maryland School of Medicine.

During his entire career Thomas has been an advocate and champion of medical research, evidence based medicine and medical education. His bibliography lists over 300 titles. His most notable research and written contributions are in the area of cervical spine disorders, peripheral nerve surgery, spinal cord injury, and the emergency aspects of cerebrovascular disease. He was Neurosurgery Editor for the Journal of Spinal Disorders and the 2,000 plus page textbook, The Adult Spine (1st and 2nd Editions). He has also served as an editor on 7 other books and 3 other journals, including Neurosurgery. He has been a guest/visiting Professor on 6 continents, and has given over 385 lectures to 40 universities and 60 medical societies/symposiums.

Born and raised in West Virginia, Doctor Ducker is a graduate of the University of Virginia with a Bachelor of Arts Degree (1959), and in college he was a varsity athlete in swimming and soccer. He earned a Doctorate of Medicine Degree in 1963. In his formal education he had accredited courses at the University of Edinburgh (1957), Cornell University (1961), and the Mayo Clinic (1962). He then completed his internship and one year of general surgery training at the University of Michigan (1963-1965).

Claudia Cai Ducker Claudia has been leading the efforts to bring Health Care Online's services to the global marketplace for clinical research. HCOL software systems have always been multilingual (initially English and Spanish). This was a natural development for our company due to the multilingual nature of our staff. Soon data was being captured from many countries in many languages. Claudia was born in Italy and lived there until her mid twenties. She has also lived in Brussels and Ghent, Belgium. She has a doctorate degree in foreign languages and literature from the Università degli Studi "G. d'Annunzio" Chieti. In the past she has worked as an Italian language specialist for VISA International and as manager for translation and interpretation projects for the Academy of Languages. She has experience in managing translation and localization for virtually all common languages in the world as well as some rather uncommon ones. For Health Care Online she has lead the development of user interfaces for our EDC systems in multiples languages and has managed all localization projects. Claudia speaks Italian, English, French and Spanish.
